Privacy Policy
The short version: ChessP2P doesn't collect, transmit, or sell personal information. No accounts, no analytics, no ads, no servers. Everything happens on your device or directly between two paired devices over Bluetooth or local Wi-Fi.
What we don't collect
- Your name, email, phone, or any sign-in info — there is no sign-up.
- Usage analytics, behavioural tracking, or crash reports auto-uploaded to us.
- Your contacts, photos, location, or microphone.
- Cookies, advertising identifiers, or device fingerprints.
What stays on your device
The app keeps a few pieces of data locally so games can be saved and resumed:
- Saved games — moves, clocks, results — stored on-device via SwiftData. Removed when you delete the app.
- Your display name for nearby discovery — defaults to your iOS device name (Settings → General → About → Name). It's broadcast over Bluetooth / local Wi-Fi only while you're actively looking for a game.
- Your in-app settings and any cosmetic preferences.
What's shared with another player
When you pair two devices peer-to-peer, the following is exchanged directly between the two devices — never through a server:
- Your display name (so your opponent can identify you on the Nearby screen).
- The chess game state — moves, clock times, draw offers, resignations.
- Nothing else. The connection is local-network only and ends the moment the game does.
Apple's role
- App Store / TestFlight: Apple sees who downloads the app. We never receive customer identities or financial details from Apple.
- In-app purchases (when premium and cosmetic items ship): handled by Apple's StoreKit. Apple processes the payment and sends us only a receipt that confirms you bought a specific item. We never see card numbers, your Apple ID, or your billing address.
- Notifications: ChessP2P uses local notifications only (e.g., "your opponent moved" while you're outside the game screen). They never leave your device — there is no push server.
Permissions iOS will ask for
- Local Network — required so MultipeerConnectivity can find nearby players.
- Bluetooth — required for pairing when Wi-Fi isn't available (planes, dead zones).
- Notifications — optional. Used only for off-screen "your opponent moved" and draw-offer alerts.
Children
ChessP2P has no chat, no online lobbies, no profiles, and no in-app advertising. Game data stays on your device or between paired devices. We don't knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
EU users (GDPR / DSA)
Because we don't collect personal data, there is nothing to access, correct, or delete on our side — any data you want gone is gone the moment you delete the app from your device. Per the EU Digital Services Act, contact details are listed below. If you have a privacy question that isn't covered here, email dpaidarakis@gmail.com and we'll respond within 30 days.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of the page. Material changes that affect what data flows out of the app will be called out in the app's release notes.
